Warming Center Protocol

Mayor Chess will continue the Town of Stratford’s Warming Center Protocols until noon on Thursday, February 5, 2026, due to an updated weather forecast indicating brutally frigid temperatures for at least another nine days, and Governor Lamont announcing that the State’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol will remain in effect until noon on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Overnight temperatures over the next nine days will largely dip into single digits. If you or anyone you know needs overnight and long-term sheltering, please contact the 211 System by dialing 211. Unhoused individuals can also seek help by calling 203-385-4100.

As colder weather settles in, we would also like to share a few tips to help everyone stay warm and safe this winter:

• Layer Up: Wear several light layers rather than one heavy layer. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add an insulating layer like fleece or wool, and finish with a wind- and water-resistant outer layer.

• Cover Your Extremities: A warm hat, gloves, and thick socks are essential. Most body heat is lost through the head and hands, so keeping them covered makes a big difference.

• Choose Weather-Appropriate Footwear: Insulated, waterproof boots help keep your feet warm and dry in snow, slush, or icy conditions.

• Stay Dry: Wet clothing rapidly lowers body temperature. If your clothes get wet, change into dry layers as soon as possible.

• Don’t Forget Scarves and Face Coverings: A scarf or gaiter protects your neck and face from cold winds and makes breathing outdoors more comfortable.
