The upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, is a remarkable achievement for our nation.
To celebrate, we invite the community to join us on Thursday, July 2, at 9:30 AM for a ceremony on the Town Hall Green that highlights and broadcasts the words that have defined who we are as a nation since 1776. Words that have resonated in our hearts and minds for generations. Words that have inspired thousands of American patriots to serve and protect our nation.
We will select excerpts from meaningful speeches and writings throughout our nation's history that have helped shape who we are as Americans. We will then ask residents to take turns reading them at the ceremony. Reading selections will include the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Federalist Papers and the Statue of Liberty, among others.
Everyone in town is invited to participate and do a reading on July 2nd, or simply attend.
We are also working with SoundView Media to film a short video featuring residents' readings of short historical passages, which we will share on our website, social media, and YouTube channel over the July 4th weekend.
For questions or to request to be part of the readings, please email Mayor@townofstratford.com. We hope to see you there!
