Men's Health Week 2025

PROCLAMATION
in observance of

NATIONAL MEN’S HEALTH WEEK

WHEREAS,    the centerpiece of Men’s Health Month is National Men’s Health Week, a special awareness period that was championed by Senator Bob Dole and Congressman Bill Richardson to pass Congress in 1994. President Clinton finalized the process and signed the bill, implementing formal recognition for the cause at a national level; and

WHEREAS,    International Men’s Health Week was launched in 2002 by representatives from six leading men's health organizations around the world. The week always ends on Father's Day; and

WHEREAS,    Men’s Health Week is a time for the public to recognize the mental and physical health needs of men and boys, while encouraging fathers to be role models for their children through preventative health screenings, healthy living, and seeking needed help; and

WHEREAS,    the growing epidemic of suicide and substance abuse requires special effort to raise awareness of unrecognized and undiagnosed depression and mental stress in boys and men; and

WHERAS,      Men’s Health Week & Month bring attention to the importance of having conversations with boys, men, and their families, in order to establish a foundation of open dialogue about their health.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, the Honorable Laura R. Hoydick, Mayor of Stratford, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Town, do hereby proclaim the week of June 9th through June 15, 2025 as

NATIONAL MEN’S HEALTH WEEK

in the Town of Stratford to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among the men and boys in our community.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Official Seal of the Town of Stratford, this ninth day of June, in the year of our Lord, two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
