National Police Week

PROCLAMATION

in recognition of

NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

WHEREAS,    In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and this prefaced what we now recognize as National Police Week; and

WHEREAS,    the Congress and President of the United States have designated May 11-17, 2025, as National Police Week to honor the service and sacrifice of those law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty while protecting our communities and safeguarding our democracy; and

WHEREAS,    law enforcement officers across our nation, including the dedicated members of the Stratford Police Department, courageously serve our communities with integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to justice and public safety; and

WHEREAS,    the officers of the Stratford Police Department work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law, maintain peace, and respond to emergencies, often placing themselves in harm's way to protect the lives, property, and rights of our citizens; and

WHEREAS,    the Town of Stratford expresses its deepest appreciation to the men and women who serve in law enforcement and honors the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS,    it is important for all citizens to recognize and reflect on the bravery, dedication, and selflessness of our law enforcement personnel during this week and throughout the year;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, the Honorable Laura R. Hoydick, Mayor of Stratford, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Town, do hereby proclaim May 11th through May 17th, 2025 as

NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

and call upon all citizens to observe this week with gratitude and solemn remembrance, to honor those who serve and have made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety, and to support the Stratford Police Department in their mission to protect our community.
