Pool Closings
December 23 – January 3. Pool reopens January 4. Closed on these dates: January 3, 6, 13, 16, 17, 31, February 7, 14, 17, 20, April 6, May 28, June 11-22, July 4, August 13-September 5.
Flood Pool is handicapped accessible with a hydraulic lift chair. For additional information call the Recreation office. Flood Pool is available to rent for Birthday Parties.

Swim Lessons at Comfort Suites 211270- Section 22-29 Postponed until February 6. Still Registering for Preschool level.
The Department is working in cooperation with Comfort Suites to offer swim lessons for preschoolers and Red Cross Level 1 lessons. Lessons are on Monday and Wednesday beginning January 30 from 2:30-4:30 pm. Registration is January 9-25. Second session is March 19 with registration February 27-March 14. Fee is $35. No class on February 20.
These lessons are designed for adults who have minimal or no swimming experience. Class is on Monday and Wednesdays from January 30-March 5 from 8-8:30 or 8:30-9 pm. Registration is January 9-25 at Short Beach. Fee is $35. A second session is March 19-April 18 with registration March 5-14. Third session is April May 2-June 6 with registration is April 16-27.
The course begins February 6 from 6:30-9 pm at Flood Pool. The 27-hour class will be held on Monday-Thursdays and the fee is $200. Participants must buy the books and their own pocket mask from the Red Cross. Registration is January 17-February 1. We must have 6 participants to offer the class.
Water Safety Instructor Class
The Red Cross Water Safety Instructors Course will be offered Tuesday-Friday February 21-25 at Flood Pool from 10-6 pm. The cost of the class is $350. Register on–line at www.ctredcross.org. Registration is through February 10. Scholarships are available through the Recreation Department.
Aquarobics 541180 Section 03, 51
A low-impact aerobic class performed in shoulder-depth water on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Flood Pool at 8:00 – 8:45pm. The 45-minute class is for adults only and will be January 9 – March 12. The fee is $65. The registration is now through January 8. Class size is limited. The second session will be April 2 – June 4. Registration will be March 19 – April 1.
Aqua Zumba 541180 Section 31
This energetic class uses Latin and International music modified and adapted to the aquatic environment without losing the basic identity and flavor that makes a Zumba class so much fun on land. Aqua Zumba means move fast and have fun in the water! No swimming skills required. Bring water and water shoes to class. Classes will take place Thursdays, 7:30-8:30pm at Flood Pool, beginning March 15 – May 10. Fee is $60. There will be a Drop-In rate of $10/class. Registration is March 1 – 14.
Therapeutic Swim
Wednesday and Friday mornings at the Ella Grasso Center 10:30 am-12:30 pm starting January 4. Participants must have a doctor’s note to swim. Swim passes are available at the Recreation office for $10. Please call the Recreation Office at 385-4052 for cancellations. If schools are closed or delayed, the program is closed. Pool is closed April 6.
Summer Swim Team NEW 111710 Section 01
A summer swim team for ages 8-16 will be offered beginning June 4 at Flood Pool from 4-6 pm. Practices will be Monday-Friday through August 10. Swim meets will be announced. The fee will be determined. Registration begins March 5.
Swimming instruction in all levels of swimming will be offered for all ages. Registration for Session I only will be June 18 from 6:00-7:00pm online or at Short Beach Park. This session will run June 25 - July 6. Session II will run July 9-July 19 with registration 6:00-7:00pm on July 6. Session III will be July 23 - August 2 with registration 6:00-7:00 pm on July 19. Fee per session is $30 for half hour lessons and $35 for hour lessons. No mail-in registrations will be accepted. Wait List registration only will be accepted on the first day of class.
Evening Summer Swim Lessons 511260 Section 90-96
Evening lessons will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 6 weeks from 6:00-8:00pm. The session is June 26-August 2. Registration is June 19 online or at Short Beach Park from 6:00-7:00pm. Fee is $30 for half hour lessons and $35 for hour lessons. No mail-in registrations will be accepted.
Longbrook Wading Pool
Open daily 11am- 4pm for youth up to age 9, beginning July 4 and closing Labor Day weather permitting. The pool is closed from 1:00-1:30pm for lunch.
Beaches
Short and Long Beach will have lifeguards on duty daily from 10:00am-4:30 pm beginning June 16 through Labor Day, unless posted.
To insure the safety of all who attend our beaches, several rules must be adhered to:
· Swimming is permitted in patrolled areas only.
· No floatation devices are permitted on the beaches.
· No swimming in the channel at Short Beach is allowed.
· Pets and glass are not allowed.
· Bathing suits are required.
· No boats or windsurfers are allowed in patrolled areas.
· No climbing on rocks
· No rock throwing
· No kite flying on beach
Beach Wheelchairs
The Community Development Agency has secured for the Town of Stratford two Rover wheelchairs for use in the water and on the beach at Short Beach Park. The chairs are available for adults and children. Another adult over the age of 18 years old must accompany individuals while using the wheelchair. They are canvas and stainless steel and an umbrella is advisable. They are to be used on the deck and the sand and may go into the water up to the middle of the wheel.
THE WHEELCHAIRS ARE AVAILABLE FOR USE BY ANY INDIVIDUAL WITH MOBILITY IMPAIRMENT. Individuals must reserve the chair at least 24 hours in advance. The chairs may be reserved between the hours of 10:00am-4:30 pm at Short Beach only. They are available mid June through Labor Day. A car license must be left at the office until the wheelchair is returned. Individuals may reserve the chairs through the Recreation Department Office by calling (203) 385-4052 at least 24 hours in advance.
