Updated August 3, 2008 Scheduling Use of School Buildings and South End Community Center Rentals The Recreation Department schedules school buildings for use after 3:00 p.m. and on weekends. Non profit groups interested in using schools may download the Building Use Form and return to the Recreation Department. Insurance naming the Town as an additional insured is required. South End Community Center Rentals Interested in having a baby shower, bridal shower or other small gathering for up to 65 people? Call the South End Center and inquire about our weekend hall rentals. Kitchen space is also available. Contact Ty Sims at the South End Community Center to schedule dates and times. The fee is $185 per four hour rental with each additional hour $30. The kitchen fee is $10 for four hours. Ball Field Permits The Ballfield Permit Meeting will be at the Baldwin Center on TBA at 7:00 p.m. Ballfield Permits will become effective April 15. Stratford residents interested in a permit may contact the Recreation Department Monday-Friday from 9:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 385-4129. Tennis Permits Tennis permits may be obtained at the Recreation office at Short Beach Park, Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 4:00 p.m. and tennis permits will become effective April 15. Call 385-4053 one week in advance for tennis permits. Launching Ramp Permits Launching ramp permits may be obtained Mon.-Fri. 8:30-4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Short Beach Park beginning Saturday, April 26. Beach Stickers New Beach Stickers for non-residents are $100/season or $10/day for Long Beach, and $5.00 for a daily pass at Short Beach on weekdays and $10 on weekends. The new stickers for July 1, 2007-June 30, 2009 were mailed in motor vehicle tax bill in late June, 2007. For those residents with new cars or leased vehicles, a car registration or tax bill must be shown for the stickers at the Recreation Office at Short Beach Park. Beach Stickers may be obtained Mon.-Fri. 8:30-4:00 p.m. and from April 26 on Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Short Beach Park. Resident cars without stickers will be charged the parking fee. Public Areas Permits Groups interested in using Paradise Green, West Broad Green, Academy Hill or another town facility or park (except Boothe Park or Roosevelt Forest) should contact the Recreation Department. Short Beach Picnic Area Reservations |
Short Beach Park has 3 picnic pavilions. Picnic Area #1 is the largest of the three and will hold over 100 people. It also has water and electricity to the site along with 2 large grills and 9 six foot picnic tables. It is the first picnic shelter at the end of Dorne Drive. |

| All 3 areas are handicapped accessible and adjacent to a boardwalk leading to a scenic overlook of Long Island Sound. A handicapped accessible bathroom is located in the middle of the 3 picnic areas. |

Reservations are required and may be made through the Recreation Department beginning March 3. Fee payment and bond must accompany application. Bond payment shall be returned if picnic area is left clean. There is a $5 fee for all vehicles without beach stickers during the weekdays and $10 on weekends. |
No raindates will be issued. Weekend is considered to be Saturday and Sunday. |
A Damage Bond equal to the fee must accompany fee and will be returned if area is left in good condition. In addition a $200 bond must accompany the fee for pig roasts. |
If a picnic reservation is cancelled 30 days in advance a full refund will be received minus a $10 administration fee. Cancellations within 29 days or less will result in a refund of their bond only. | | Short Beach Park Short Beach Park is a 30 acre beachfront property located at the mouth of the Housatonic River and Long Island Sound. It provides a beautiful view of the colorful sail boats as they leave and return to shore in the evening hours. The Park has a Par 3 Golf Course, Miniature Golf Course, Handicap Accessible Playground, 2 Little League Fields, 1 Regulation lighted softball field, 7 beach volleyball courts, 8 tennis courts, skateboard park, 2 basketball courts, 3 picnic areas with bathrooms, a soccer field, a lacrosse field, 1000 feet of beachfront with concession stand, bathrooms and new deck. Beach Stickers are required or a $5 parking fee ($10 on weekends and holidays) will be charged at the park entrance. The parking fee is returned to patrons of the miniature golf course when paying to play. Residents receive beach stickers in their tax bills the end of June. Non residents may purchase seasonal passes at the Recreation Office for $100. Recreation office hours are 8:00 – 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from May through the end of September from 9:00 – 2:00 p.m. Lifeguards are on duty beginning June 14 through Labor Day from 10:00 – 4:30 p.m. Swimmers are asked to stay within the guarded area in front of the concession stand. Visitors are asked to help keep the park clean and not to bring glass bottles to the park. Pets are not allowed in the park. - Top of Page - |
