THE STRATFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT WANTS YOU!

Mayor James R. Miron and Chief John J. Buturla announced the first ever Stratford Police Citizens Police Academy was completed by several citizens and consisted of one (1) three - hour class once a week.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for the Stratford Police Department to open its doors and give our residents a first hand look at how we do business," said Chief Buturla. "I am honored to have the opportunity to remove any perceived barriers so that we can begin to foster improved relations with the community that we serve."

The course is free and open to all Stratford residents 18 years of age or older. The instructions will take place in the Stratford Police Department’s Training Unit at 900 Longbrook Avenue.

The course will cover topics including: Crime and The Criminal Justice System, Criminal and Motor Vehicle Law, Prosecution and Defense, Police Administration, Criminal Investigation, Patrol Procedures and other areas of interest. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a ride along program with Patrol Officers.

Professional Standards

Captain Michael Fernandes has been assigned as the Commanding Officer of the newly created Professional Standards Division. His sole duty is to raise the standards of service, training and professionalism within the police department. Captain Michael Fernandes is a 28 year veteran of this department and he is enthusiastic about his new position.
