History of Asthma Initiative
In 2004, the Connecticut Department of Public Health's (CTDPH) Asthma Program received funding from the CDC's National Asthma Control Program to implement evidence-based, state-wide initiatives that address asthma from a public health perspective. CTDPH organized the state into designated asthma planning regions.
In 2005, the Connecticut Department of Public Health Asthma Program accepted proposals from each asthma planning region. In September 2005, Region 6 submitted a proposal to fund Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America's Asthma and Allergy Essentials for Child Care Providers©, an evidence-based asthma training for child care providers developed in 1994. The Stratford Health Department was chosen to be the lead agency and fiduciary for this grant.
In 2009, the Stratford Health Department, as the lead for the region, was provided with additional funding to implement Putting on AIRS - a program that assesses home environmental risk for people with asthma. It is designed to improve environmental conditions for asthmatic children and adults to reduce the frequency of asthma-related adverse events.
