From Bridgeport Vicinity (95 North):

Take Exit 30 Lordship BLVD and proceed to the end of the ramp.

**Continue straight on Lordship BLVD for approximately .5 of a mile.  Take your first left after DUCHESS onto Woodend Road.

 

Proceed down Woodend Road (passing SNET and Old CT. Emission) to the stop sign.

 

Take the first quick left past the stop sign onto Early Avenue.  You will see a parking lot and a yellow building.  This is the South End Community Center.  Please park in the parking lot and ring the doorbell for entrance to the building.  If you miss the quick left after the stop sign you may take the second left onto Bates Street.  The building is on the left side.  Main Entrance is on Bates Street.

 

 

From New Haven Vicinity (95 South):

Take Exit 30 (Surf Avenue) at the end of the ramp turn left on Surf Ave. and proceed to the traffic light at the light turn left onto Lordship BLVD and follow the above directions from the **

 2012 Summer Soiree Enrichment Program information packets will be available!

Eight week summer enrichment program for children in grades K-3.  Children will take part in age-appropriate, daily-supervised activities and weekly field trips.  Program operates from June 25 - August 17, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. with extended hours available from 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.  Registrations are taken at the South End Community Center until all sessions are full.  No mail-in registration.  Space is limited.  Extended hours are $30.00 per week/ per child.  Fee is $150.00 per week, second child $75.00, and third child $60.00.  Click here for more information.

K-3 After School Enrichment Program

Licensed after school enrichment program for youth in grades kindergarten through third grade.  Children in the program receive on site tutoring and homework assistance, basic computer instruction as well as other educational and recreational activities and field trips.  K-3 follows the Stratford Public School calendar and operates Monday through Friday from 3-6 pm. The fee is $240 per month.  Daily snack is provided.  Limited transportation offered from Honeyspot, Johnson Academy, and Nichols and Wilcoxson.  Enrollment ongoing limited spaces available.  Program runs September 3, 2012- June 14, 2013.  We are a Care for Kids provider.

A.B.C.D. Head Start Program operates a preschool program for children 3-5 (must be 3 by December 31st) at the South End Community Center.  Hours of operation are 9:00 am- 1:50 pm.  Applications for the September 2012- June 2013 school year can be picked up at the South End Community Center or you can call and speak with an A.B.C.D representative between the hours of 9:00 am- 3:30 pm at 203-385-3819 ir 203-385-3821.

 Vacation Day Camp: Columbus Day- October 8, 2012

The vacation day camp is for youth ages 5-12.  Children will take part in educational, fun and recreational games and activities throughout the day from 9:00 am- 3:00 pm at the South End Community Center.  The theme for this vacation day program is "Exploration of Science."  The cost for this program is $40 with extended day being offered in the PM from 3-5:30 pm for an additional $10 per child.  Children must bring a lunch, snack is provided.  Sibling discount is available.  Registration begins September 19- October 7.


 

Holiday Food Baskets

During the holidays individuals in need of food assistance may register to receive food baskets through the SECC Council Community Food Pantry.  This program is being offered in collaboration with Sterling House Community Center.  Registration for this program is November 19- December 7, 2012.  Food baskets will be distributed on December 19 from 9:00 am- 12:00 pm at the South End Community Center.  Non-perishable canned goods and supermarket gift cards are needed.  Call 203-377-0689 or email secc_board@yahoo.com to make donation arrangements.


 

Hip Tot (Ages 3-5)

An introduction to Hip Hop Dance class for the very young dancer ages 3-6 will be held at the South End Community Center for six weeks on Tuesdays, starting September 18- October 23, 2012 (Fall Session) for 4:00 pm - 4:45 pm and November 6 - December 11, 2012 (Winter Session) from 4:00 pm- 4:45 pm.  The fee for this program is $35.00 per child.  Registration will be held September 3-14, 2012 (Fall Session) and October 22- November 2, 2012 (Winter Session).

 

Hip Hop for Youth (Ages 6 and up)

 

An introduction to Hip Hop Dance class for youth ages 7-13 will be held at the South End Community Center on Tuesdays, starting September 18- October 23, 2012 (Fall Session) from 5:00 pm- 5:45 pm and November 6- December 11, 2012 (Winer Session) from 5:00 pm- 5:45 pm.  The fee for this program is $30.00.  Registration begins September 3-14, 2012 (Fall Session) and October 22- November 2, 2012(Winter Session).  


 

 Zumbatomic Lil Starz

Register your child today for this beginner level class for youth ages 5 -12.  Youth in this program will take part in basic exercise and Zumba choregraphy with and without music.  This program will be on Wednesdays, from 4:00 p.m.- 4:45 p.m. at the South End Community Center for eight weeks Fall Session begins September 19- November 7, 2012, Winter Session begins November 21, 2012- January 9, 2013.  The fee for this programis $35.00 per child.  Registration will be held September 3-14, 2012 (Fall) and November 5-16, 2012 (Winter).

 
 

Community Food Pantry:   The South End Community Council of Stratford Inc. offers emergency food pantry services to Stratford Residents on Wednesdays from 9:00 am- 12:00 pm.  All food pantry participants must show identification and/or proof of Stratford residency.  Emergency food services are also available for those individuals who receive food stamp assistance or come with an agency referrel regardless of residency.  Non-perishable canned goods and supermarket gift cards are needed.  Call 203-377-0689 or email secc_board@yahoo.com to make donation arrangements.


Coat Closet Program:

This program provided hats, coats, gloves, and socks to individuals in need from October-March.  Interested individuals must stop by the center to register or get a referral from area agencies to receive merchandise from the Coat Closet.  Collaborations have been made with area agencies and businesses to assist us in gathering coats and other items needed for the coat closet.  New or slightly used donations are welcome.


Stratford Health Department Dental Clinic:

The Stratford Health Department Dental Clinic located at Stratford Academy Johnson House, 719 Birdseye Street, provides routine dental exams, dental cleanings, preventative treatments and basic care to restore health to children.  Dental Clinic accepts children who are covered by HUSKY as well as children with no insurance.  A sliding fee schedule is available for families who fall within established income guideline.  Call (203) 385-4090 for more information or to schedule an appointment.


WIC (Women, Infant and Children):  This program offered in collaboration with the Optimus Healthcare is a supplemental nutrition program from women who are pregnant or have children ages 0-5.  For more information or to register please call Optimus Healthcare located on 1450 Barnum Avenue in Bridgeport at 203-333-9200.


Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (V.I.T.A.)

The South End Community Center in collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service and other agencies is looking for responsible community minded volunteers to be trained to prepare taxes and assist with the operation of the VITA sites located in Stratford.  Training for the tax season begins in January 2013.  Volunteers are asked to commit no more than 8 hours per week during the months of February, March, and April.  Volunteer hours are during tax site hours of operation only.  For more information please contact Ty Sims at the SECC (203) 377-0689.  All sites prepare taxes by appointment only.

South End Community Center Rentals

Interested in having a baby shower, bridal shower or other small gathering for up to 65 people?  Call the South End Community Center and inquire about our weekend hall rentals.  Kitchen space is also available.  Contact Ty Sims at South End Community Center to schedule dates and times.  The Fee is $195.00 per four hour rental with each additional Hour $35.00.  The Kitchen Fee is $10.00 for four hours.
