A Sikorsky Aircraft helicopter

Stratford is the birth place of the American helicopter industry. It was here that Russian immigrant Igor Sikorsky flew the first helicopter. With Sikorsky Aircraft as the largest taxpayer, Stratford has become synonymous with helicopters.

The Department of Community and Economic Development provides information concerning available business locations and state and local business incentive programs. The department is responsible for securing, implementing and managing the Community Development Block Grant Funds that the Town receives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Town receives an annual entitlement from HUD of approximately $689,000 and begins its planning process for its Annual Action Plan in January. The Town's program year begins on July 1st and runs through June 30th.
