STATION REGULATIONS The Stratford Railroad Station parking lot is operated by the Town of Stratford under a lease agreement with the State of Connecticut, the owner of the facility. The primary purpose of the lot is to provide parking for area rail commuters. Preference is not given to Stratford residents. PARKING CATEGORIES These regulations govern parking by the following categories of facility users: - Permit 205 Parking Spaces
- Daily 80 Parking Spaces
- Handicapped 11 Parking Spaces
- Restaurant/Coffee Shop
The vast majority of the spaces in the lot are reserved for permit holders PERMIT PARKING All parking spaces, except those marked as daily, handicapped, restaurant, or coffee shop, are reserved for permit holders between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding municipal holidays. Vehicles parked in permit parking must display a permit sticker on the right-hand side of the rear window. After 12:00 noon and on weekends and holidays, permit parking areas may be used by the general public free of charge on a first-come, first-serve basis. To obtain a permit, call 381-2051 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or you add your name to an online Rail Road Wait List PERMIT PERIODS New permits are issued every six (6) months. The permit periods are as follows: March 1 through August 31 September 1 through February 28 The permit price is pro-rated for those who purchase permits in the middle of one of the designated six-month periods. Permit holders who change jobs or move may request a partial refund by returning the permit with a note explaining the circumstances to the following address: Town of Stratford Railroad Department 2725 Main Street Stratford, CT 06615 PRICE OF PERMITS Effective September 2001, the permit fee, including State sales tax, is $175.00. PERMIT RENEWALS Permit holders will be contacted by mail at least one month prior to the expiration of the permit period and given the opportunity to renew their permit. All renewals will be handled through the mail. The permit fee must be accompanied by a completed renewal application. PLACEMENT OF PERMIT STICKER Permit stickers shall be affixed to the RIGHT-HAND SIDE OF THE REAR WINDOW. Incorrect placement of permits may result in the issuance of parking tickets. MULTIPLE VEHICLES Permit stickers are transferable from one vehicle to another provided that information on all vehicles to be used has been included with the permit application. If the permit is to be utilized by a carpool consisting of people from two or more households, names and addresses of all car-poolers should be attached to the permit application. REPLACEMENT OF PERMITS Loss of or damage to a permit should be reported immediately to the Mayor's Office. Replacement permits will be issued only upon receipt of the damaged sticker. If the permit is lost or stolen, the permit will be voided before a replacement is issued. There will be a $10.00 processing charge for replacements. CHANGE OF ADDRESS Please report any change of address to the Mayor's Office. Failure to do so may result in your not receiving parking information or notification to renew your permit for the next period. PARKING RESTRICTIONS Permit holders may not park in stalls designated as daily restaurant or coffee shop parking. Permit holders with a valid State handicapped card or license plate may utilize the handicapped spaces adjacent to the platform at the daily rate of $5.00. Permit holders and daily parkers must park in designated stalls only. Failure to park in a stall will result in a $25.00 fine and/or revoke current permit status if applicable. Vehicles parked in permit parking without a permit are subject to a $25.00 fine. Permit holders parking in daily parking are also subject to a $25.00 fine. FRAUDULENT USE Evidence of fraud in obtaining a permit or its use shall void that permit. WAITING LIST A waiting list is established on a first-come, first-serve basis. Individuals on the waiting list will be contacted by mail as spaces become available. AVAILABILITY OF PARKING SPACES The Town of Stratford is doing everything possible to ensure that there is a space available for every permit holder who enters the lot. However, there may be an occasional day, particularly during severe weather, when the lot fills up completely. Possession of a permit does not guarantee a parking space. If availability of space becomes a problem, please contact the Mayor's Office. DAILY PARKING Daily parking is available at the Stratford Railroad Station at the end of the lot on the New Haven/Eastbound side in numbered spaces only between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except municipal holidays for $5.00 per day. Parking is free between the hours of 12:00 pm and 5:30 am and on the weekends The Town of Stratford has two pay and retain parking meters located one in front of the museum on the New Haven side and one in front of the coffee shop on the New York side. The town of Stratford has contracted with a security company to monitor the parking lot. If the machine is out of order a ticket will be attached to your vehicle for the daily fee. There is no charge for parking after 12:00 p.m. and on weekends and municipal holidays. The daily parking spaces are located in the rear of the New Haven lot. Each daily parking space on the Westbound side is clearly marked with a sign stating, "Daily Parking $5.00." There are currently daily parking spaces at the rear of the Eastbound (New Haven) side. DAILY PARKING FEE The daily fee for parking during the restricted hours is $5.00 per day. This amount includes State sales tax. LATE PAYMENTS Failure to pay within FIFTEEN DAYS doubles penalty. PERMIT ZONE VIOLATIONS When parking restrictions are in effect (5:30 a.m. – 12:00 a.m.), vehicles parked in permit parking without a permit are subject to a $25.00 fine. All spaces in the lot, with the exception of those marked as daily, handicapped, restaurant or coffee ship, are reserved for permit holders. The permit zone violation doubles to $50.00 if not paid within 15 days. Permit holders and daily parkers must park in designated stalls only. Failure to park in a stall will result in a $25.00 fine and/or revoke current permit status if applicable and/or towing of vehicle. FAILURE TO PAY PARKING FEES OR VIOLATIONS Failure to pay parking fees of fines promptly may result in one or both of the following actions by the Town: Account forwarded to collection agency. Vehicle immobilized or impounded. HANDICAPPED PARKING Only vehicles with a valid State handicapped card or license plates may utilize handicapped spaces at the daily parking fee of $5.00. The fine for handicapped zone violations is currently $100.00. RESTAURANT/COFFEE SHOP PARKING Spaces marked as restaurant or coffee shop parking are reserved for short-term customers of these establishments. They may not be utilized by commuters or other train riders. Vehicles in violation of this regulation may be immobilized or impounded. HEAD-IN PARKING Head-in parking is required where possible. Park in designated spaces. OVERNIGHT PARKING Overnight parking is permitted in both lots at your own risk. Overnight parkers are urged to park in highly visible areas. DAMAGE OR LOSS TO PERSONAL PROPERTY. The Town of Stratford carries limited insurance on all parking areas. No insurance is carried to cover the property of the permit holder, who by accepting the permit or parking on a daily basis, assumes all risk of damage or loss of property. The Town of Stratford is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of your personal property, but can provide no guarantee against vandalism or theft. The Town has contracted with a private security company to provide lot security. In addition, the Stratford Police Department provides regular patrols of the parking areas. Please assist our efforts by locking your car and taking your keys. Report all vandalism immediately to the security attendant or the Stratford Police Department. SPEED LIMIT The posted speed limit for the Stratford Railroad Parking Lots is 15 m.p.h. Signs are posted at the entrances and on the islands on both sides of the lot. Violations could result in permits being revoked. ILLEGAL PARKING Parking is permitted only in clearly marked stalls. The Police Department will issue a ticket or tow vehicles guilty of the following violations: Blocking another vehicle Blocking an entrance, exit, or fire lane Parking in a non designated space or other restricted area. Driving above the posted speed limit. |
