PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The United States Congress and President of the United States have designated the first week of June “National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Awareness Week”; and
WHEREAS, the designation of such week speaks to how important it is for all Americans to learn critical lifesaving skills such as how to perform CPR, how to use an AED and the need to increase public access to AEDs; and
WHEREAS, in October 2008 the Stratford Town Council passed at the urging of the Town’s Mayor an ordinance requiring Automated External Defibrillators (AED) be located in Town buildings and schools and on site at certain types of establishments, including specific sized restaurants, health clubs, stores, municipal buildings and hotels; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that on average it takes eight to 10 minutes for first responders (9-1-1) to reach a victim thus making it is essential for the public to be trained and certified in lifesaving skills to feel comfortable performing CPR and using an AED until advanced help arrives; and
WHEREAS, in order to promote CPR and AED Awareness the Town of Stratford and Stratford Firefighters will conduct free Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and adult, child and infant CPR classes for the public;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor of the Town of Stratford encourage all individuals, businesses, and community organizations to observe the week of June 1 - June 7, 2009, as National CPR and AED Awareness Week with appropriate trainings, ceremonies and observances in which all of our people may join in increasing their awareness of CPR and AEDs.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Seal of the Town of Stratford this 4th day of June A.D. 2009.
Mayor James R. Miron
