PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, over 8,500 citizens age 65 and over have made Stratford their home; and
WHEREAS, older adults in Stratford and throughout the nation are an increasing population with evolving needs; and
WHEREAS, older Americans are valuable members of our society who enhance our Town and personal lives; and
WHEREAS, the increasing number of baby boomers reaching traditional retirement age highlights the need for increased support of older adults; and
WHEREAS, our older citizens of today and tomorrow promise to be among the most active and involved older adult populations in our nation’s history; and
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the residents of our Town and all U.S. communities to work collaboratively to address older adults’ unique health and long-term care challenges; and
WHEREAS, it is crucial that communities modernize systems of care to help empower older Americans so they can have more control over their own lives; and
WHEREAS, it is the government’s duty to provide tax relief when possible to older adults who worked so hard to build up this Town and this country, but yet often struggle to afford the most basic of necessities; and
WHEREAS, the Baldwin Center and all the services it provides demonstrates our Town’s commitment to older residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor of the Town of Stratford, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2009 as
OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
in the Town of Stratford and invite all residents of the Town to join me honoring our older adults and all they have done to make America and our Town what it is today.
