PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Leroy Haggans was born and educated in Asheville, North Carolina. He has been a resident of Stratford since 1972 and is married to Ollie K. Haggans for 59 years; and,
WHEREAS, Leroy Haggans was a dedicated worker for Remington Arms in Bridgeport before retiring after 30 years of service. For nearly the last 19 years he has worked for the Stratford School Bus service as a driver and a chaperone for students during class trips.
WHEREAS, Leroy Haggans has been actively involved in the Stratford community through his civic and political affiliations as a member of the American Legion 140, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Prince Hall Masons, and the Chessman Foundation. He also served his country in the Korean War before being honorably discharged.
WHEREAS, Leroy Haggans has distinguished himself as a servant of the Lord through decades of ministry at the Mount Aery Baptist Church, 73 Frank Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was the church Treasurer for 30 years and part of the Leadership Ministry, Fellowship Ministry, and Scholarship Ministry for 35 years. He also served on the Trustee Board of the church.
WHEREAS, In 1959 Leroy Haggans joined the Deacon Ministry where he offered help to those in need throughout the Bridgeport and Stratford communities. With an unwavering commitment to the Stratford community, Leroy Haggans is still conducting Deacon Ministry at Mount Aery Baptist Church 50 years after joining the ministry.
WHEREAS, Leroy Haggans is a humble servant of the Lord, loving husband, and a significant contributor to the Stratford community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor, do hereby invite all members of the community to join me in thanking Leroy Haggans for his important and considerable service to the Town of Stratford.
