PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Heart disease is the number one killer of women - one in four American women will die from heart disease; and
WHEREAS, the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign celebrates the energy, passion and power of women to band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke; and
WHEREAS, the color red and the red dress now stand for the ability all women have to improve their heart health and live stronger, longer lives; and
WHEREAS, today, the American Heart Association’s near-term goal is nothing less than a 25% reduction in coronary heart disease and stroke risk by the year 2010; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Stratford is joining in this fight by offering employees “Go Red for Women” cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI screenings and by illuminating Town Hall in red to raise awareness of women and heart disease; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Stratford is encouraging all women to make heart health a priority for themselves and their families, to become aware of their personal risk factors for heart disease, and to take action to lower their risk.
NOW THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor proclaim February 6, 2009 as NATIONAL GO RED FOR WOMEN DAY in the Town of Stratford and encourage all citizens to wear red to show their support for this national health movement.
