Stratford Mayor James R. Miron Attends 77th Annual Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors
Stratford, Connecticut (June 22, 2009) – Mayor James R. Miron attended the 77th Annual Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors from June 12 to June 16. Led by Conference President and Miami Mayor Manuel Diaz, hundreds of the nation’s mayors assembled in Providence, Rhode Island to participate in this national discussion.
The conference was held at the Rhode Island Convention Center Westin Providence Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island. Mayors from all across the United States gathered to discuss ways to improve municipal operations, conserve energy, improve economic development, increase cultural diversity, and much more.
“The United States Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting presents an optimal opportunity for mayors from around the country to discuss key issues impacting both our nation and our local community,” said Mayor Miron. “Many of the issues impacting communities across the U.S. aren’t necessarily unique to one community or region. I look forward to meeting with mayors from around the country to discuss best practices that have proven successful in communities that are similar in nature to Stratford.”
Some key policy resolutions that were proposed at this year’s conference include federal policy and local energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy, preserving and expanding the community reinvestment act, reauthorizing the juvenile justice and delinquency prevention act, and supporting an increase in the development of green jobs.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are 1,139 such cities in the country today, each represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the Mayor.
