BACK NEXT Mayor James R. Miron visited Stratford’s South End Community Center Saturday in support of the Town’s Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) site, which, in collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service and other agencies, prepares income taxes for individuals in need during tax season. This program also serves as a financial literacy program encouraging participants to get checking and or savings accounts, repair credit as well as file for the Earned Income Tax Credit on their returns. Last year, Stratford’s VITA Site at the South End Community Center filed 81 tax returns, a 42% increase from 2005. As a result, over $36,000 from EITC was returned to members of the Stratford community. Stratford’s VITA site opens in February. Appointments can be made by calling 375-5396 and 380-0844.
